Anne B. Hopkins

Anne B. Hopkins, nee Zajac, graced this earth for 101 years. A resident of Chicago’s Garfield Ridge Community for 65 years, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Ambrose. Loving mother of Carol (Michael) Smigielski, William (Margaret) Hopkins, the late Cynthia (Kenneth) Cachur, Mary Hejna, and Frances (William) Rouse. Cherished grandmother of James (Martina) Smigielski, Cheryl (Brian) Scott, Rose (Nick) LaRocco, Matt (Maureen) Hopkins, Neil (Melissa) Cachur, Tara (Neal) Molnar, Kaitlyn (Michael) Hathaway, Madison Rouse, William Rouse, and Annie Rouse. She was the loving great-grandmother to Michael and the late Michelle Barrett, Logan and Jack Smigielski, the late Theodore LaRocco, Ethan, Mason, and Cameron Cachur, Stanley and Calvin Molnar, and Aiden and Bentley Hathaway, and a loving aunt to many. Anne grew up in Chicago’s Brighton Park community after WWI with her non-English speaking parents who emigrated from Poland with her seven brothers and sisters. Anne met her husband Ambrose while growing up in Brighton Park. They married shortly before Abe was shipped off to England where he volunteered to fight for the Army Air Corps in 1942. Anne is a founding member of St. Jane DeChantel Parish (St. Faustina Kowalska) and the Brighton Park Polish Highlanders Club. She took quilting classes at the Chicago Park District and then formed a quilting club. Anne never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune. Her family knew never to call to check in between 6:30 and 7:00 so Anne could concentrate on vowels and consonants with Pat Sajak. The best pierogies in Chicago were made in Anne’s kitchen. We’d like to think Anne is making her pierogies and reuniting with her loved ones in heaven. Above all else, Anne enjoyed spending time with her family and hearing about all their adventures and accomplishments throughout the years. Family and Friends will meet on Friday, March 31, 2023, at St. Faustina Kowalska Church for a memorial visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, we will request to donate to your charity in honor of Anne Hopkins or make a donation in her name to St. Faustina Kowalska Parish.
