Lorraine E Doran

Lorraine Elizabeth Doran (née Wasik) was born in Chicago on February 23, 1934. She was the second youngest of ten children, the last five born to Thomas Wasik (born 1885) and Catherine (née Chmiel) Wasik (born 1895), both immigrants from Poland. The other children were Francis, Sophie, Angela, Genevieve, Helen, Emily, Chester, Eleanor, and Mary Ann. Lorraine was the last surviving sibling. Lorraine, or Lor, grew up on Aberdeen Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago. She was a student of St. John of God elementary school and St. Joseph’s High School. In 1956, she married James Doran, who grew up one street over from her own. They raised two children, Kevin J. (deceased) and Karyl A., in Clearing, a southwest neighborhood near Midway airport. She lived there in her raised ranch bungalow for over 65 years and loved her ties to the community. Lorraine worked for a few businesses near her home, Clements and AA Wire, in the 1960s and 1970s. Later in her career, she also worked in the Loop at Time-Life, Inc. and American National Bank, where a highlight came in the form of helping Ernie Banks over the phone. Her hard work and perseverance helped carry her family throughout the years. Outside of work, she loved her favorite television programs, sporting her staple penny loafers, and had an affinity for sweets. In her retirement, she probably rode her stationary bike around the world a few times and proved her mastery of crossword and word search puzzles. In her final years, when her health kept her close to home, she still made sure to attend mass at St. Rene down the block. Lorraine was a loving, caring, and devoted mother and grandmother to her children, son-in-law Daniel Simms, and her grandchild Tyler, whom she was especially proud of for his academic achievements. She had a gentle, quiet spirit, and a quick smile. She had many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, whom she talked about often. Her family, especially those who passed before she did, were always in her thoughts. Visitation is Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 9AM until time of Prayers at 11 AM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 West Archer Ave.(55th street just west of Harlem). We will go in procession from the funeral home to Two Holy Martyrs Parish, St. Rene Goupil Church for an 11:30 AM. Mass. Lorraine will be laid to rest next to her son at Resurrection Cemetery. An invitation is extended to everyone to gather together for a luncheon in honor of Lorraine at Capri Ristorante Italiano, located at 12307 S. Harlem Ave., Palos Heights, IL. 60463.
