Eleanor D. Steinle

Eleanor Steinle passed away peacefully in her home in Chicago, Illinois on September 10, 2012. Although her health deteriorated over the past year, she was still able to take great pleasure in the company of her family. She was deeply loved. Eleanor was born in Chicago and was one of five children. Her parents, Elizabeth and Thomas Donnelly, each emigrated to Chicago from Ireland. Two of her siblings, Thomas Donnelly and Catherine Belvedere, preceded her in death. She is survived by Elizabeth Mount and James Donnelly. All of her siblings shared the inherently Irish qualities of keen intellect, literacy, and wit. Eleanor lost the love of her life, William, in 1989. Although she never thought she would be separated from him for long, they are now most assuredly together. Her extended and loving family includes her children Laura Steinle Kreft, William Scott Steinle, Thomas Charles Steinle, and Mark Steven Steinle; grandchildren Alison Kreft McKell and her husband, James McKell; John Jordan Kreft; Julia Rose Steinle; Caroline Elizabeth Steinle; Nicholas William Steinle and Tessa Marie Steinle. Her great-grandson, Sean Henry McKell, was a recent joyful addition to the family. Eleanor generously shared her humor and wisdom, enjoying the countless details of all these lives. Eleanor served on the Board of Good Shepherd Manor for 18 years. Good Shepherd Manor is an extraordinary residential, educational and vocational facility for men with developmental disabilities. EleanorÆs son William has been lovingly cared for there since he was 18 years old. Her desire to love and protect William undoubtedly led to her long life of 86 years. Funeral Friday, September 14, 2012 at 9 am from Foran Funeral Home, 7300 West Archer Avenue (55th Street just west of Harlem), Summit, Illinois to St. Rene Goupil Church, 64th and New England Avenue, Chicago, Illinois for a 9:30 am Mass of Resurrection. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, 7201 South Archer Road, Justice, Illinois. Visitation Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Foran Funeral Home.
