Aurora C. Garza

Aurora C Garza(nee Chapa), 91, passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus on Friday, February 20, 2026 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 51 years. She was born November 4, 1934 to Eduardo and Maria Chapa in the town of Doctor Gonzalez in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Later the family moved to the city of Monterrey, Mexico where after graduating high school she attended bilingual secretarial school. After secretarial school Aurora began work at the Cigarrera la Moderna (currently British American Tobacco) corporate office from 1953 to 1965. On September 14, 1965 she married her husband Alonso Garza in a traditional Roman Catholic wedding in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Immediately after marriage Aurora and her husband began a family together in Chicago, IL. Aurora and Alonso raised their three children first in the Blessed Agnes (now St Agnes of Bohemia) parish in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago and later moving and settling in the St Daniel’s parish of Garfield Ridge in Chicago’s southwest side. Aurora worked for the Goldblatt’s department store formerly located on the southwest corner of W. 26th Street and S. Spaulding Av. For one year in 1974 in the store’s main office before starting in 1975 at the newly founded Pilsen Little Village Mental Health Center (currently Pilsen Wellness Center) where she worked until 1996, retiring as the executive secretary to the CEO as well as the office manager. In 1992, Aurora battled breast cancer successfully. Aurora was very social and was loved by the many friends she met along her life’s journey. Her greatest love was for her children and grandchildren. Aurora was a proud parishioner of St Daniel the Prophet Catholic church and supporter of the Society of St Vincent DePaul Chicago. She is survived by her three children, Alonso J. III, ret C.P.D. (Barbara Menzel) Garza, Edwin D. (Delia) Garza, Nora E. Garza, C.P.D. and her five grandchildren, Edwin Garza, Alexander Garza, Andrew Garza, David Garza, Steven Garza. Preceded in death by her loving husband Alonso and her siblings, Alicia, Edelia, Jesus, Hermila. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, from 4PM to 8PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th St. just West of Harlem). Visitation at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 AM until time of Prayers at 9:30 AM. We will go in procession from the funeral home to St. Daniel the Prophet Church for a 10 AM Mass. Aurora will be buried along with her late husband at Resurrection Cemetery.
