Alice E. Madej

Alice E. Madej passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Julius “ Lou” Madej. Loving mother of Richard (Dawn) Madej and Karen Madej (Carl Nodus). Dear Grandmother of Carol (Andy) Braun and Erik (Kristen) Madej. Cherished great grandmother of Jack, Sara and Aubrey. Alice was preceded in death by her sisters and their spouses, Helen and Ed Gottfried, Irene and Charles Squires, Stephanie and Frank Para and Ray Cole. Alice will be remembered dearly by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Visitation is Friday, October 4, 2024 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave.(55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation on Saturday at the funeral home from 8:30 AM until time of Prayers at 9:30 AM. We will go in procession from the funeral home to St. Daniel the Prophet Church for a 10 AM Mass . Alice will be entombed next to her husband at Resurrection Cemetery, Community Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Alice’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN. 38105 She will be remembered as a woman who cherished her family. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Alice was born on January 24,1928 to Isador and Elizabeth Boryczko. She was the third daughter of 4 sisters. She was an accomplished seamstress when she met Julius , a young soldier returning from WWII, who was affectionately known to his friends as Lou. They were married for 25 years and had two children, Richard and Karen. Alice was devoted to her family, in whom she took boundless pleasure and pride. She loved and was loved dearly my her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Alice was a phenomenal baker. She was known for her pistachio cake, pecan cups and rosettes for all family gatherings. She enjoyed socializing at dinners and parties and especially at the annual Halloween parties. Alice treasured her trips to Florida, Las Vegas, California and Hawaii. She loved to laugh. We will all remember her as someone who was kind and generous, who loved life and was always there for everyone in the most thoughtful, generous and unassuming way. She affectionately known as Sally, was a longtime resident of Chicago’s West Lawn community and most recently of the Garfield Ridge community.
